Abstract

The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, particularly photovoltaic (PV) systems, into distribution networks has introduced significant challenges related to power quality and reliable power flow management. This study presents a comprehensive approach for power quality enhancement and power flow analysis of a PV-integrated Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) in a distribution network. The proposed system combines the functionalities of series and shunt active power filters with a PV generation unit to mitigate common power quality issues such as voltage sag, swell, harmonics, and reactive power imbalance.The PV-integrated UPQC not only compensates for disturbances in the supply but also injects active power generated from the PV system into the grid, thereby improving overall system efficiency. Advanced control strategies are implemented to ensure stable operation, effective harmonic mitigation, and seamless coordination between the PV source and UPQC components. The system is analyzed under various operating conditions to evaluate its performance in terms of voltage regulation, harmonic distortion reduction, and power flow optimization. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly enhances power quality and ensures efficient energy utilization in modern distribution networks with renewable energy integration.
