Illegal tree logging and smuggling of valuable trees such as sandalwood and teak pose a major threat to biodiversity, the economy, and environmental sustainability. Traditional forest monitoring systems fail to provide real-time tracking or immediate alerts during unauthorized activities. This paper proposes an IoT-based smart forest monitoring system that employs RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and environmental sensors to protect valuable trees from illegal cutting or smuggling. Each valuable tree is tagged with a unique RFID tag for identification and equipped with sensors that detect motion, vibration, or tampering. When an abnormal condition is detected—such as cutting, movement, or temperature change—an alert is sent to the forest authorities via GSM or wireless network. The system ensures continuous monitoring, improves forest security, and reduces manual surveillance. This innovative approach combines IoT, RFID, and sensor networks to provide a sustainable and automated solution for forest conservation and smuggling prevention.
