Online Classroom System with Course Management Assignment Grading and Attendance Tracking

Abstract

The research presents a full-stack web-based Online Classroom Management System (OCMS) developed to automate and digitalize academic classroom activities through a centralized, secure, and efficient platform. The proposed system addresses challenges associated with traditional classroom management, including manual record keeping, delayed communication, inefficient assignment handling, and limited transparency in attendance and academic evaluation. The application is developed using React JavaScript (React JS) to provide a responsive, interactive, and component-based user interface with RoleBased Access Control (RBAC) for administrators and students. Communication between the frontend and backend is achieved using Axios and Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs). The backend is implemented using the Django Representational State Transfer (REST) Framework, which manages user authentication, authorization, business logic, and data processing. My Structured Query Language (MySQL) serves as the relational database for secure and reliable storage of user information, course details, attendance records, assignments, and grades. The platform incorporates an administrator-controlled user approval mechanism to ensure secure access and authenticated participation. Administrators can create courses, upload assignment Portable Document Format (PDF) files, record attendance, evaluate submissions, and assign grades with feedback, while students can enroll in courses, download assignments, upload PDF solutions, and monitor their academic progress through personalized dashboards. The proposed system enhances teaching and learning by automating routine academic processes, reducing administrative workload, improving data accuracy, and ensuring transparency, scalability, and efficient academic management for modern educational institutions.
