ENERGY-AWARE EMBEDDED SYSTEM DESIGN FOR IOT SENSOR NODES
Abstract
Energy efficiency is a critical requirement for Internet of Things (IoT) sensor nodes deployed in applications such as environmental monitoring, smart agriculture, healthcare, and industrial automation. These sensor nodes typically operate on limited battery power and are expected to function reliably for long durations without frequent maintenance. Conventional embedded system designs often result in excessive energy consumption due to continuous sensing, inefficient processing, and communication overhead. This paper presents an energy-aware embedded system design for IoT sensor nodes that focuses on minimizing power consumption while maintaining reliable sensing and data transmission. The proposed approach integrates low-power hardware components, duty-cycling techniques, and adaptive power management strategies. MATLAB/Simulink-based analysis demonstrates a significant reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional embedded system designs, validating the effectiveness of the proposed energy-aware approach.
