Abstract

Industrial automation systems increasingly rely on cyber-physical systems (CPS) that tightly integrate computation, communication, and physical processes. While CPS enables higher productivity, flexibility, and real-time control, it also exposes industrial environments to serious cybersecurity threats. Attacks on industrial CPS can lead to production downtime, safety hazards, and significant economic losses. Traditional IT security mechanisms are often inadequate due to realtime constraints, legacy systems, and resource limitations. This paper presents a secure cyberphysical system architecture for industrial automation that integrates layered security mechanisms with real-time control requirements. The proposed architecture combines secure sensing, authenticated communication, intrusion detection, and control-level protection to ensure system resilience. Analytical discussion and simulation-based evaluation demonstrate that the proposed framework enhances security while maintaining operational efficiency in industrial environments
